Playing the learning power game 2022-unit images8

7. Where now: what next?

Developing your professional habits involves un-learning and re-learning: unpicking, readjusting, trying things out and seeing what works. It’s about you using your own learning power to effect changes in yourself. And the desired change is not just in what you think and believe; it is in how you spontaneously talk and act and plan.

In this unit you will find:

  • a reflection piece to help you consider your growth and development as a teacher with a focus on classroom culture;
  • a reflection piece to help you to consider how your students’ learning behaviours may have changed;
  • descriptions of a broader set of modules that make up the next phase of the programme;
  • brief explanations of why and how the next phase of the programme enables students to become better learners.

Key points in thinking where now and what next

  • understanding and progressing your own learning dispositions is a game-changer for yourself as well as your students
  • your habits as a learner become part of the picture; how you go about changing is as relevant as the changes you are aiming to bring about in students
  • exploring yourself as a learner helps you to design learning experiences that support you and your students
  • tracking your own progression as a learning powered teacher provides you with a way of seeing yourself both as a learner and a teacher beyond any academic performance.
