Developing thinking behaviours
When you use these learning behaviours, you …
- are curious and like to get below the surface of things and come up with your own conclusions;
- look for connections between new experiences or ideas and what you already know;
- engage in disciplined thinking and create logical arguments;
- let your mind explore and play with possibilities and ideas;
- make intelligent use of all kinds of strategies and things to aid learning.
The activities, think pieces and questions in this module aims to help you make a start on:
- introducing your students to one of the four domains of learning;
- using the language of learning effectively with your students;
- designing the use of learning behaviours into the way you teach;
- developing the confidence and behaviour in helping your students to grow their learning habits.
The purpose of building your students’ Learning Power is to facilitate the growth of high value psychological characteristics and strengthen their learning character. These behaviours, attitudes and values, when used with increasing competence and confidence across many learning opportunities, become learning habits; the characteristics of successful lifelong learners.
