As a teacher you are an influential character builder and so need to be mindful of how you help students form, replace, re-form and strengthen their learning habits.
The activities, think pieces and questions in this resource aim to help you, as a teacher, to make a flying start on:
- introducing your students to the key learning behaviour known as Collaboration
- using the language of learning to strengthen students’ Collaborative behaviours
- designing the use of Collaboration into the way you teach
- developing your confidence and skill in helping students to grow and strengthen this learning habit.

D) An alternative DIY resource for students
If your school wishes to offer students an alternative self-help resource we can offer ‘Getting better at Collaboration’ This resource is aimed at helping young people understand more about themselves as a learner and can be run on school systems such as Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams. It’s designed to enable older learners to:
- become interested in the process of how they learn
- learn about one of their learning habits and how it can grow
- plot where they think they are now on this learning journey
- learn about some ways to improve
- and make a plan of action to develop how they learn
This learning resource could be used as it is, taking one lesson a week across 3 or 4 weeks in the school timetable. Alternatively it could be offered as an assignment for use outside the school timetable.
